Improper posture of the head, neck, and shoulders has been recognized as a
contributing factor to cervicai pain, cervical neuralgia and numbness of the arm,
cervical pain is a cormnon problem inour socicty and it is also a life style
disease.
Some of the most common treatment options include traction, physical therapy
and medications, some invasive treatments or surgical procedures were suggested
to treat patients with more serious symptoms.
This is a true clinical report of a patient who used Enrac CMT to treat his neck
and shoulder pain after the traction procedure failed to treat his cervical
neuralgia and made his pain and symptoms worse, under Enrac CMT' s
treatment principles of:
no medications
no injections
no acupuncture
no contact with painful areas
no injections
no acupuncture
no contact with painful areas
the patient was able to make an excellent recovery.
Clinical case report
The patient was a 56 year-old professional military man, who has jogging habit,
he was bothered by a shoulder and neck pain one month prior to the clinic visit,
the shooting throbbing pain in his left shoulder extended to his left upper arm. he soreness and numbness in his forearms and hands had last about two weeks
(see illustration I).
When he visited the Rehabilitation Department in a General Hospital his pain
level was at 6 on Visual Analogue Scale (VAS: 6), His neck became stiff, he could
not extend his neck, pain in the neck was worsened with movement of the neck
especially when head leans backward; his reflex and tendon reflexes examination
results were normal, and he had no history of injury, however C-spine HIVDC5-C6
was diagnosed after doctors reviewed the medical imaging (see illustration II),
he was then given non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxant,
he also received cervical traction procedure, but the pain became even worse
after the procedure, the shooting pain in his left shoulder and numbness in left
forearm became unbearable, he could not even go to work.
He came to our Orthopedic Department under his friend's recommendation;
C-spine stenosis with radiculopathy was detected after we went through his MRI
and X-ray, due to the severity of his pain, we recommended him to use Enrac
CMT. He was treated with Enrac Electro therapy Stimulator, each treatment
session lasted about 15-30 minutes. total of 7 treatments, and no medicines were
taken during the treatment period. The following are the patient's treatment
progress.
Before Enrac CMT
The patient was in severe pain, pain level was at 7 (VAS:7, type of pain symptom:
see illustration I ), the patient could not resume activities like driving, jogging
or swimming, his daily life, work and sleep quality were also affected by the pain.
After first treatment(day 1)
Patient's subjective pain states was down to 2( VAS: 2) , the numbness in hand
and arm were relieved, but the symptoms came back after 6 hours, the shooting
pain was less painful. The patient still could not resume his normal activity and
work, the patient was able to sleep well on the night of treatment.
After the second treatment(day 3)
Symptoms were relieved and came back after several hours like the first treatment,
pain was less intense during work, and sleep quality was improving.
After the third treatment(day 5)
A 60% improvement under the patient's subjective evaluation of his symptoms,
the numbness in left upper arm was totally relieved on the day of treatment;
the pain in his neck was less intense when leaning backward.
the numbness in left upper arm was totally relieved on the day of treatment;
the pain in his neck was less intense when leaning backward.
After the fourth treatment(day 8)
The pain was localized, pain frequency and intensity were reduced, and the patient
could resume some of his past activities (swimming, driving and working in a daily
basis)
After the fifth treatment(day 15)
The patient felt pain only when his neck moving from the flexed to the extended
position, the patient's daily life and work were no long affected by the symptoms
After the sixth treatment(day 22)
and the seventh treatment(day 30)
The patient is fully satisfied with the treatment result of Enrac CMT. The pain and
numbness were relieved, his daily functions and physical activities were fully
restored, the patient was also able to have good sleep quality, and the patient
has no relapse or recurrence after six months offollow-up.
Discussion
Cervical traction is not generally recommended for treating neuralgia patients in
an acute phase; the patient should not be manipulated in an acute phase.
Conservative treatment which involves physical therapy, medications, braces are
common and effective These therapies will benefit each individual differently,
and the success of these treatments depends mostly on what condition the patients
are suffering.
After the success and positive feed back of this clinical case, I think Enrac CMT is
another great choice among many of those conservative treatments.
Different from most Western diagnostic procedures, Enrac CMT stress on the
clinical evaluation and etiology rather than MRI results.
clinical evaluation and etiology rather than MRI results.
To find the pathophysiology of symptoms is the basis of Enrac CMT. By employing
the principle of vital flow regulation, conditions such as cervical neuralgia, and
common neck pain, soreness can all be eliminated.
Prescription
I used Enrac Electro therapy Stimulator to treat the patient, applied the treatment
on each pressure point for 3 minutes, I also used the treatment patch instead
of the press sticks on the control point.
